Mentor and Coach
Mentor and Coach
You may know the difference between the two but for clarity and perspective a mentor is someone you bring in who has done what you’re trying to do, has walked the path and worn the T-Shirt.
A coach in this context is someone who hasn’t necessarily done the exact thing you’re looking to do but has a skill set to challenge you, help you to discover the path and then walk forwards.
In my opinion entrepreneurs need both. Sometimes you need someone to tell you exactly what to do, to normalise your behaviour, to understand you.
Other times you need a coach who will question and challenge in a different way.
No two people or businesses are the same, your pathway is unique and no mentor can replicate that nor would you want them too.
But coaching alone sometimes cannot get it done. You need the quick wins, the doors to be opened and the genuine understanding and appreciation of the loneliness that you can and probably do experience as a business owner forging your pathway forwards.
A skilled practitioner can choose which hat to wear and when.
