No more excuses: My Story of the Victim Trap

I’m going to get straight to the point today.

The only thing stopping you from getting what you want is you. If you let go of your limiting beliefs, stop your ego getting in the way and get some help you can be in a completely different place mentally and financially in a matter of weeks, let alone months and years.

If you want help with that hit reply now and let me know your phone number and some background for me to give you a call.

My Story of the Victim Trap:

In 2008 when I was made redundant by British Tennis I was at a real low point. I had genuinely delivered what I felt was my best work for those players, the results were unquestionable but a change in strategy by the organisation forced myself and some other excellent coaches out. It was really tough to take, I had just taken on a mortgage and my coaching career was taking off.

It really hit me. I remember thinking how can this happen to me? It’s not fair. I’d done the work, the studying, the internships, the experience, I was entitled to a job, right?
I could not have been more wrong!

I still had a clear vision to become a world class strength, conditioning and performance coach but no clear way forwards and no financial certainty.

I think of that time to this day as a real pivotal moment in my career.

It was a choice. To be a victim, or not.

To wallow in self pity or take action.

I chose the latter, and I also made a clear decision. To never ever again be dependant on any one organisation or athlete for my income and to fully take control of my own financial future.

I might sound confident but in all honesty I had no idea what I was going to do and with trepidation began to phone all the relevant people I knew to see what opportunities there were.

I was selling myself and my services. And initially I felt really uncomfortable doing it. Like it wasn’t supposed to be this way, almost a bit sleazy and desperate.

I stayed on the telephone and pushing opportunities.

Turning up at sessions and introducing myself.

Getting appointments, meeting people and showing them what I could do.

And like anything, you get better by doing it. The first steps are always the most daunting and scary.

I hired a business and life coach who massively helped me to channel my focus and make it happen.

After many ‘no thanks’ and ‘not now’ conversations I ended up with a role at a high performance tennis academy in Leeds as a contractor and began to build my business back up.

I stayed pro-active with business development work and picked up roles with Huddersfield giants, private clients through the tennis academy, mixed martial arts fighters, governing body contracts and more.

I began documenting my journey through a self built website and an email list.

I kept delivery at the core of everything, delivering the best results I could for the people I served.

I began training the trainers.

And one key thing I realised was that selling yourself and promoting your business is not a sign of weakness it’s a sign of strength and confidence and people can feel this from your language and behaviour.

I founded Strength and Conditioning Education soon after, the company has trained over 50,000 coaches to this date and continues to do so successfully.

Let me brutally clear. I’m certainly nothing special and I know there are lots of people with far more challenging circumstances than me. But that’s not the point.
I want to make sure you achieve your version of success, whatever that may be, and we all need help to get there.

And you absolutely can build the business and life of your dreams. If you take action.

At the core of my mentoring and coaching are three pillars.

Technical Development : The nuts and bolts.

Personal Development: What are you looking to achieve and why?

Business Development: How are you going to get there?

Technical knowledge is one third of what I do. Because the other two thirds are so important.

Be honest with yourself for a second. are you in a good place and if not why do you continue to allow yourself to make excuses, live in denial and blame everyone but yourself for the position you’re in?

The beautiful truth is you can do whatever you want to do, but you won’t achieve anything until you take ownership, make the decision to be a success and not be a victim.

It’s on you.

And if you want my help with it just reach out. I’m looking to work with 5 people in October to grow yourself and your business intensively in the next few months. Lots of my clients are generating record income in weeks and mentally in a different place in the same time too.

If you need that contact me here and we can chat.

Brendan
